Passed Down: Black Lives/Black History

Through conversation and performance, Adam & Gloria Matlock share stories about their lives—as a (mixed) Black boy and man, as a Black mother raising a mixed Black son, and as performers, and about how historic happenings like the 1921 Black Wall Street massacre in Greenwood, OK, relate to events affecting Black lives today.

Adam Matlock is a New Haven composer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.  He is currently composing an opera based on the 1921 Black Wall Street massacre.

Gloria De’Layne Matlock is an educator, dancer, poet, chorus director, and playwright.  She has presented her workshops using music to heal racism throughout the U.S. and beyond.  She lives in Greenfield, MA.
